New winners every day at Superweek

With three days of professional men's racing in the books the Superweek series has had a different race winner for every race. That trend continued today in the fourth race as local midwest amateur Chad Burdzilauskas (Texas Roadhouse) out-sprinted the other seven riders in the breakaway that lapped the field to take the win.
The win was a nice surprise as Burdzilauskas had not even planned on racing today. "I decided this morning while I was at work - my team-mates called me and asked if I wanted to come do this race," he said.
Burdzilauskas was not in the initial move, but was part of multiple bridging groups that made the initial break of three into an eight rider move.
"I was just out in front bridging with these guys, and the one from Virgin Blue, Bernard Sulzberger, was just drilling it," he said. "I was just holding on for dear life because I knew if I got around I had teammates to drive me to the front."
Once the break lapped the field, strategies changed. Kelly Benefits Strategies-Medifast took control of the front as they had riders in the break. With one lap to go it was all green and gold of Kelly Benefits on the front - but not far behind were the Texas Roadhouse riders waiting to crash the party.

"Kelly was just lining it up on the last lap," said Burdzilauskas. "[John] Puffer pulled me around and then [Adam] Bergman rode me around the Kelly guys through the last turn. Then I just took the inside line on the curving finish."
Back in the main field, series leader Sterling Magnell and points leader Rahsaan Bahati, both of Rock Racing, had to ride with targets on their back all day. But such is the life of a race leader.
"It was tricky racing actually because all those guys were following me around all day," said Magnell. "As soon as I would try to get across one of them would be on me, so I would just sit up. It was frustrating so I just went to the back and marked the guys I had to worry about. I don't like to race that way, it isn't any fun, but it's what you have to do with the race lead."
In the first women's pro race of the series, Verducci Breakaway took control by winning the intermediate sprints and the race, thereby taking the overall leader's jersey as well. Kacey Manderfield won all of the intermediate sprints while her team-mate Teresa Cliff-Ryan took the stage victory - despite being outnumbered by eight Hub Racing riders.

"My girls took over on the last lap," she said. "Jess pulled through and Kacey took me into the last corner, then I went from there."
Cliff-Ryan had been out of the racing scene since the beginning of June when she broke her left hand during Philly Week. "I was real nervous coming into the race because I broke my hand in Reading and this was my first race back," she added. "But it was the perfect course for it, with nice open turns and not many bumps. But it was hard to move up because there were a lot of curves."
The women's series lasts through this Sunday and should be hotly contested with a few teams having multiple riders. But Verducci-Breakaway as all the cards for now. "I'll be going for the overall and hopefully get Kacey in the sprints," she said.
