The first of the road races for the 2007 UCI B World Championships was completed in Wellington, with the women's time trials over a distance of 14.1km and the men's time trials over a distance of 28 kilometres.

Chapookham Monrudee from Thailand was the gold medallist in the ladies TT, with a time of 21:28 at an average speed of 39.409km/h. Second was Sungeun Gu from Korea and the bronze medallist was Ilze Bole of South Africa with a time of 21:38.

In the men's Time Trials, Hajun Ma from China earned a gold medal with a time of 34:45. The silver medal went to Chris Froome from Kenya with a time of 35:00 while Evgeni Wacker from Kyrgyzstan won the bronze with a time of 35:01 .

"In the men's TT, we obviously knew of Chris Froome of Kenya (who has been training recently at the UCI Academy in Switzerland) and the defending champion Evgeni Wacker but China was a bit of a surprise within a South African context," said Cycling South Africa's Carinus Lemmer. "But on the other hand we must realize that China are sharpening up for the 2008 Olympics and are gaining visibility."
