Siutsou wins stage and (barely) takes the overall lead

Kanstantsin Siutsou of Acqua Sapone became the first Belarus rider ever to win a stage of the Peace Race and take over the leader's jersey. His hold on the jersey is shaky, though, as he has the same time as second-placed Giampaolo Cheula (Barloworld). The two also ended the stage in that order.
A breakaway group of five, including sprinter Danilo Hondo, stayed away much of the race, but only with a small advantage. Hondo said that he attacked only to pick up the intermediate sprint points. "But it turned into a group that got away. It certainly wasn't planned!" Hondo continues to wear the sprinter's jersey, and the mountain jersey went to Przemyslaw Niemec (Miche), who won six of the day's seven mountain primes.
A few hundred meters before the finish line, Siutsou attacked and won, only minutes before it started raining. He finished ahead of Cheula and Pasquale Muto (Miche). "If I'm in the front again on the way to Meerane, then it looks good for me to win the overall," Siutsou said.
Thursday's stage runs entirely through Germany, from Dippoldiswalde to Meerane. The stage ends on the "Steilen Wand" (steep wall) in Meerane, a 12-percent climb, which must be climbed three times in the final laps.
