Serpellini takes the stage on the "Italian Day"

Marco Serpellini (Unibet.com) led a 1-2-3-4 finish of Italians Tuesday at the Peace Race, finishing ahead of Christian Gasperoni (Naturino), Massimo Giunti (Naturino) and Andrea Tonti (Acqua Sapone). Gasperoni took over the leader's jersey from sprinter Danilo Hondo.
The 176,5 km from Karlovy Vary to Teplice, both in the Czech Republic, presented the riders with various difficulties, including mountains, rain, roads slippery with wet pollen and roads with lots of gravel. Leader Hondo managed to stay with the main group until the climb up the Dlouha Louka, 33 km before Teplice. On the descent, 11 riders managed to get away and stay away until the end.
"It's too bad that on Monday I lost 13 seconds on a flat stage, otherwise I would have the yellow jersey now," said Serpellini.
"I am very happy," said the new leader, Gasperoni. "I have the best team here. But we will have to wait and see whether I will win the Peace Race."
Wednesday's stage takes the riders 140,8km from Bilina, Czech Republic, to Altenberg, Germany, with a total of seven mountains, including a mountain-top finish.
