Jaan Kirsipuu (Credit Agricole) has capped off a successful week by winning the final stage of the Etoile des Bessèges, a 148 km race between Gagnières and Bessèges. As he did in stage 2, Kirsipuu held off Stéphane Bonsergent (Bretagne-Jean Floc'h), with Jimmy Casper (Cofidis) taking third place. There were no changes to the overall classification, which was fairly well set following the first stage. Belgian Frederik Willems (Chocolade Jacques) took the biggest win of his career, keeping both Preben Van Hecke (Davitamon-Lotto) and Thomas Voeckler (Bouygues Telecom) at 26 seconds behind him on the general classification.

The final stage was run at over 45 km/h, and saw one serious breakaway attempt. Stage 3 winner Eric Leblacher (Française des Jeux), attacked with Sébastien Duret (Bretagne Jean Floc'h), Nicolas Inaudi (Cofidis), Angel Castresana (Unibet.com), Christophe Brandt (Davitamon-Lotto) and Daniele Contrini (LPR) after 60 km, and managed to increase their lead to 2'14 by 80 km. But some hard chasing by the sprinters teams saw the advantage cut to 1'30 with 35 km to go, and the group was pulled back at 7 km to go.

The resultant sprint presented no problems for Kirsipuu, who won his second victory of the season.
