Stage 2 - April 27: Cassino - Pietrelcina, 149.0 km

Australian team report

By Brian Stephens, AIS U23 coach

Stage 2 of the Giro Regioni was a lot tougher that 1. There was a 13km climb at the 88km mark where the field split. From there to the finish the course went up and down and the pace was furious. A group of 16 went clear with about 30km to go including Kemps and Dawson and at 25km ot go a group of 4 split off the front of that. These were 2 Italians, a Frenchman and a German. This group stayed clear except for the Frenchman who was caught by the chasers. Italian, Visconti, went clear to win from team mate Nibali with German Burghardt taking 3rd and the leaders jersey. Peter was 5th, holding 2nd overall and leading the points competition with Aaron running 8th.
