66th Giro del Belvedere - 1.7.1

Treviso, Italy, April 12, 2004

2003 Results   Results    Past winners

By Brian Stephens, Australian U23 Team Manager

On Monday, the team travelled to Veneto for the Giro Belvedere. The team was reduced to six riders, this being the maximum. So Daniel's stint as a road rider ended and Ryan had a recovery day. This course started with 17 laps of a 7km circuit with a moderate climb followed by two 14km laps with a very steep 3km climb. Traditionally, and again this year, the race was decided on the last two climbs. For us, Ash Humbert climbed the best to be in the front group of 15 over the top the first time, and by the second crossing, he was in a group of 10, just off the lead five riders. He finished a strong ninth place in a very tough race won by Claudio Corioni from Unidelta. Bernard Sulzberger and Richard Moffatt finished just out of the top 25.
