Stage 3 - June 6: Campoformido-Lignano Sabbiadoro, 145 km

Australian Team Report

By Brian Stephens, AIS U23 manager

Today's stage of the Giro Friuli was on from the start with a break of 35 riders going in the early stages. Peter Dawson was in the group, which split and reformed after the major climb of the day at the 60km mark. Unfortunately, when a group of 15 went away from this group, Peter missed it and was left to fight for minor placings.

Race leader, Ruslan Pidgornyy, also missed it but managed to hold his lead narrowly. Dave McPartland was also in this group but crashed in a big pile up with about 40km to go. He was relatively unhurt but lost a lot of time. The stage was won by Giairo Ermeti from Vellutex.
