The men's duo team of Benjamin Sonntag and Jason Sager (Team Jamis) have secured the first place Trans Andes Challenge with one stage remaining.
On a day of sunshine and warm temperatures, stage 5 took racers between the Menetúe Thermal Complex and the QuimeyCo Thermal Complex. The faced demanding climbs and rolling paths through the Andes.
Taking the fourth stage victory in five days, Team Jamis is comfortably in the overall lead. It won stage 5 over 72km in a time of 3:35:22, with an 18:53 margin over runners-up Marty Lazarsky and Neal Kendree.
In the mixed duo category, Americans Mary McConneloug and Michael Broderick (Team Kenda/Seven/NoTubes) have been the strongest in each of the stages. Today, they completed the stage with a time of 4:03:56, easily beating Chileans Elisa García and Claus Plaut.
The Trans Andes Challenge ends Saturday with a smooth stage ending in the city of Pucón.
