Richard Lang (Titans-Race) managed to hold off Queenslander Cameron Jennings (Budget Forklifts) and race favourite David Kemp (Fly V Australia) in a tight at the end of stage two of the GMHBA Tour of Geelong.

The 79.6 kilometre Road Race from Lara to the You Yangs began in perfect conditions as the riders remaining tightly packed for the bulk of the race. David Kemp placed first in the first sprint of the race before rain swept over the peloton making the final, category 3 climb to the You Yangs a soggy affair.

Gippsland's Charles Howlett (Cycle City) laid the foundations for a great tour as he grabbed place in four of the five sprints on offer. Howlett's efforts earned him the most aggressive rider jersey. Stage winner Lang claimed the king of the mountain jersey, while Jonathon Cantwell (Fly V Australia) retained his overall lead and extended his hold on the sprint jersey competition.

"I tried to get a break in the final 20 kilometres of the race but the peloton dragged me back in, I've been training all year and I was hoping to secure a stage win", said 20-year-old Lang after his hard-fought victory.

Winner of the final stage of the Tour of Elk Grove last week in Chicago, Jonathon Cantwell has been making huge waves in the United States, helping team Fly V Australia claim 60 wins so far this year. He remains the tour leader with a time of 2:54:37, Lang is second, 0:15 behind. Cantwell's Fly V teammate David Kemp is in third, a second further back.

The riders will line up again tomorrow for stage three. The course involves three laps of a 47.7 kilometre circuit around the town of Anakie and includes twelve categorised climbs.
