Tour of Britain 2017

Overview

The Tour of Britain 2017, scheduled for September 3-10, will start in Edinburgh for the first time and visit nine new venues over the eight days of the UCI 2.HC race. The 2017 edition will link the capitals of Scotland and Wales as it finishes for the first time in Cardiff.

The race also announced a new title sponsor for 2017 in OVO Energy, the UK's top rated independent energy supplier.

The 2017 Tour of Britain will cover 1,310 kilometres as it makes it's way from north to south, but the climbers will have little to look forward to as the organisers designed a relatively flat course for the rouleurs and the sprinters. A 16km time trial on stage 5 will help shape the general classification over the final three days.

The addition of finishing circuits on several stages should also add to the excitement as riders battle for stage wins and time bonuses.

Twenty teams will race in the 2017 OVO Energy Tour of Britain. Stephen Cummings (Dimension Data) won the 2016 edition of the Tour of Britain, beating Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) by 26 seconds, but he won't be back to try and win it for a second time.
