Vogel, Levy add to German gold tally

Arango wins Omnium, Shanks claims pursuit win

Germany added to its domination of the sprint events at the second UCI Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia. Kristina Vogel claimed gold over France's Virginie Cueff in two matches in the women's sprint final, while Max Levy took home the victory in the men's keirin over Frenchman Francois Pervis and Hersony Canelon of Venezuela.

In the women's individual pursuit, New Zealand's Alison Shanks proved she is back on top form by setting a personal best time en route to the gold medal over Briton Wendy Houvenaghel.

“Not only was it a good ride, it was evenly executed. I wanted to firstly go out and beat Wendy and win the gold medal but to do so and record such a fast time as well and it’s day three after the team pursuit ... I am stoked,” said Shanks.

“Cali is also a fast track but there’s a bit of wind so you have to be smart how you ride it. It shows I am fit and it’s a great way to kick off the season.”

Juan Esteban Arango gave the host country its first gold medal in the men's omnium. The Colombian secured the victory with top placings in the time events - the 3km pursuit and kilometer time trial. He finished with a five point margin over silver medalist Zach Bell (Canada) and on further point over third placed Brian Cocquard (France).

In the first half of the women's omnium, Canadian Tara Whitten holds a slim one point lead over American Sarah Hammer. Hammer won the flying lap while Whitten claimed the points race over Hammer. Kiwi Joanne Kiesanowski took the win in the elimination race.
