• Bruno Risi smiles as he slings in partner Kurt Betschart. Lying in third place overall, the Swiss pair were strong contenders for overall victory. Minutes later, Risi was brought down in a crash and injured his knee, putting him out of the race.

• Swiss fans gathered to cheer on Risi and Betschart – complete with a Swiss cowbell to ring!

• If you thought the sun never shone in England here is proof it does as the riders in the junior race head towards clear blue skies - and its the middle of winter - or at least feels like it!

• Big fields were the order of the day in the bright sunshine at Mallory Park.
• A far bigger than usual group formed at the front of the veterans over 40 race in the early stages, with local Phil Roach going on to win.
• In the veterans over 40 race Andrew Shaw forces the pace with Phil Roach clinging on whilst Andy Barnard has to give best and starts to fall back
• Annabel Simpson has dominated the girls category in the youth races for the National Trophy series.
• In the under 14 girls, Penny Rowson leads Samantha Bryant with Bryant going on to win that category at Mallory Park.
• Steven Proud comes out of the sun to cross the finish line to complete another lap in the youth race.
• Yet another win for Alex Paton in the youth race as he extended his lead in the series.
• The women's podium (l-r): Amy Thompson (1st junior), Louise Robinson (3rd and 1st veteran), Sue Thomas (1st and new leader of the series) and Amy Hunt (2nd).
• Tom Last (Matlock CC) and Oliver Webster (Triangle RT) are first out of the blocks as they race up the club to the start/finish area and the course proper.
• It took a little coaxing but we got them to smile in the end even though yellow jersey Mick Bell probably didn't feel too happy after 'one of those days'. Phil Roach - he of the biggest smile in the host club's Rugby Velo jersey - is certainly pleased though and is now Bell's closest challenger in the series. On the right is Andrew Shaw (2nd) and on the left is Duncan Walmsley (3rd).

• A spent Dale Knapp (Kona) finished second on the day in Masters 35+ but retained his overall series lead.
• Canadian Wendy Simms (Kona) dominated the Elite Women's race and was never really challenged.
• Barb Howe of Velo Bella secured a spot on the women's worlds team as the best-placed American in the race series.
• Lyne Bessette (Cyclocrossworld.com/Louis Garneau) won the series title, but demonstrated that she could be beaten - although not easily.
• Riders fought uncharacteristic heat and dusty conditions in Golden Gate Park, atypical for late fall cyclocross.
• Colleen Wanty of Missing Link Racing sped through the trees for a finish just outside the top 20 in the competitive Elite Women's race.
• Barry Wicks (Kona) and Todd Wells (GT-Hyundai) led from the start of the Elite Men's race and kept a healthy gap over the rest of the field.
• In only his second cyclocross race, Chris Horner (Saunier Duval-Prodir) took an early spill in the dirt and still finished a strong 11th on the day after several mechanicals. After the race, he announced his intention to compete at cyclocross nationals in Providence, Rhode Island.
• With one lap to go Todd Wells leads Barry Wicks through a short uphill section.
• Todd Wells (GT-Hyundai) outsprints Barry Wicks (Kona) for the win. Wicks would claim the series title from Tim Johnson.
• Mark McCormack (Clif Bar) and Tim Johnson (cyclocrossworld.com/Louis Garneau) gutting it out for third place. Johnson fought valiantly after a poor start, but ultimately succumbed to the strong men's field and previous day's racing. The race cost him his series lead.

• The top six day stars came to Manchester with Robert Slippens & Danny Stam leading the pack through on the presentation laps from Matt Gilmore & Iljo Keisse and World Madison champions Rob Hayles & Mark Cavendish.
• Craig MacLean peels off after lap 1 for Jason Queally to lead the British trio to a fine victory over the Germans. As Jan Jan Van Eijden said later in his best English/German accent.. 'they kicked our asses'.
• Jan Van Eijden leads the Germans through in an event he admitted afterwards he isn't really suited to anymore as man 1 but the Germans still made the British work for their victory.
• Winners again of the Raleigh Future Stars competition were Lucy Richards and Peter Kennaugh.
• Chris Hoy, winner of the Invitation Keirin where the Germans set up a lead out train for Rene Wolff but the Brits Hoy and Ross Edgar were the ones who fought out the victory at the end of the lap.
• Nicole Cooke was in dominant form in the Womens Omnium winning at will almost.
• Matt Gilmore & Iljo Keisse came away from Manchester with victory in the Flying kilometre.
• Craig MacLean was really sharp in the sprint, coming around World Champion Rene Wolff on the final bend to win by the whisker.
• Matthew Crampton had no equal in the Keirin where he won comfortably.
• One of the finest victories of the night went to Junior World Pursuit champion Andrew Tennannt in the Points race.
• First victory of the night went to Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins and Chris Newton in the Madison Elimination race.
• It was a luxury hamper awaiting the VIPs and guests in the track centre as the racing went on around them.
• Winners of an awesome Madison - and how happy is Rob Hayles with that - were World Champions Mark Cavendish and Rob Hayles.
• The big Swede, Paris Roubaix winner Magnus Backstedt prepares for his first World Track Cup in Manchester in three weeks vy racing at Revolution 10, pictured slinging former World silver medallist in the Scratch race, Tony Gibb, into the Madison race.
