26 year-old sprinter Daniele Bennati is still undecided on whether he will ride the Italian championship road race in Genova on Sunday. Bennati showed he is in form by taking the points jersey in the recent Tour de Suisse. After an intestinal bug disrupted his spring campaign, Bennati is now building for the Tour de France, and the championship race may fit into his preparation schedule.

"I think I will do the national championships this Sunday [in Genova]," he explained to Cyclingnews on Tuesday. "I have still not decided, but I think I will go.

"I don't know if it will be a sprint finish or not. I think it will be difficult arrive in a sprint finish. I hope, but I think it will be difficult. If there is not a sprint I will be there to help [team-mate Alessandro] Ballan."
