Disgraced former professional, Jörg Jaksche, expects the winner of this year's Tour de France to achieve his victory with the assistance of performance enhancing drugs.
"Yes," said Jaksche when asked whether he thought the 2009 Tour's winner would be a doper. The former rider, who admitted to doping during his own career, said he feels it is a situation that will most likely continue in the future.
Jaksche told the German magaine Tagesspiegel am Sonntag that extreme endurance sports such as cycling lend themselves to doping. “I have experienced it myself: doping simply brings too much [to consider doing without it.]”
In 2007, Jaksche detailed his own doping practices and was subsequently suspended for one year.
Despite having served the term of his suspension he has been unable to find a new job within the sport since then.
"I regret my confession every day, and I am happy about it every day. That might sound paradoxical. I can't practice my beloved job any more, but I can look at myself in the mirror every morning without having to to be ashamed that I have to keep on lying."
