Colombian still in line for Tour de France start
Sergio Henao (Team Sky) may return to racing as soon as this week and Cyclingnews understands that the Colombian returned to Europe this weekend.
Cyclingnews understands that Henao could be back in action at the Bayern Rundfahrt this week, however, Cyclingnews contacted Team Sky, who denied this. The team said that the process was still ongoing and that Henao was not yet cleared to race. However, they did confirm that Henao was back in Europe.
Henao was removed from the team’s racing programme after the Tour of Oman in February, where he finished 7th overall. A monthly team review highlighted anomalous values in Henao’s blood data. The team decided to send Henao back to his home country of Colombia to run tests to see what effects living at altitude had on the body.
It is understood that if Henao is still in contention for a spot on the Tour de France team, if he can impress with his form beforehand. If he does make it to the start line in Yorkshire, it would be his debut appearance in the event. Sky are hoping to take the yellow jersey for the third consecutive year.
