Cyclo-cross world champion Lars Boom was hospitalized after an injury to his elbow became inflamed according to L'Equipe. Boom crashed in the Azencross Loenhout on December 30 and received 12 stitches in his elbow. The wound has since become infected although he is still expected to return to training and competition in time to defend his rainbow jersey at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide in early February.
