Mayo stays with Euskaltel until 2006

The twists and turns of the negotiations between Iban Mayo and his Euskaltel-Euskadi team came to an end today when Mayo signed with his home team for another three seasons.

Team manager Miguel Madariaga thanked Mayo for his "strength for staying at home" and Sabino Angoitia (Mayo's manager) for "maintaining at all times his word". With Mayo and Haimar Zubeldia firmly in the camp, Euskaltel's project for a shot at an orange victory in next year's Tour is now on track.
