Moreni to Cofidis?Former Italian champion Cristian Moreni (Quick.Step) is rumoured to have signed a deal with French team Cofidis after his commitment with the non-existent team of Giancarlo Ferretti vanished. Various media have indicated that a one-year contract has been inked but Italian sources have refuted this, reporting that only contacts have been established. Moreni, 32, is said to be positive about the deal but contract negotiations are still under way. Meanwhile, another one of Ferretti's sponsorless signings, Ukrainian Sergey Matveyev might stay with his current squad Ceramica Panaria-Navigare, for whom he has raced for the last five years.
Camaño extends with EuskaltelIker Camaño has extended his contract with his current team Euskaltel-Euskadi, according to Spanish Marca. Camaño, who started out as a pro with Phonak in 2002, will be entering his third year with the Basque squad next season. Celestino operated onMirko Celestino, team captain of Italian team Domina Vacanze, has undergone surgery on his left knee after a crash in Saturday's Giro di Lombardia. Korff sees more chances in 2006Andre Korff is just one sprinter among several at T-Mobile Team, even though the star of the discipline, Erik Zabel, is leaving the squad. How does the 32 year-old Korff see his chances in 2006, now that Zabel is leaving to newly-created team Milram? "I will probably do a lot of races with Olaf Pollack, who likes my work and who is also honest enough to let me go for it when he's not good in form. Zabel didn't always do that," Korff told the Fränkischer Tag newspaper. "And I think that in the spring classics there will be some other tactics," he continued about the overall team strategy certainly influenced by Zabel's departure. "Wesemann and Klier are the captains, but if one of us out of the 'second line' is in a breakaway group, then he will have his chance and won't be ordered back to prepare for a mass sprint which someone else will win anyway... This year riders in good positions were called back in order to go for a bunch sprint, but the number of wins this season shows that this was not always the right strategy."
