Eneco Tour winner Bobby Julich (Team CSC) has moved up to fourth in the ProTour rankings with 130 points, 54 behind leader Danilo Di Luca (Liquigas-Bianchi). Julich, winner of the first ProTour race (Paris-Nice) has an outside chance of taking back the lead with the Tour of Germany and other ProTour stage race coming up, but Di Luca will no doubt be doing his best in the one day races. Second placed Lance Armstrong (Discovery Channel, 139 pts) has retired and will obviously not challenge for any more points, while third placed Alexandre Vinokourov (T-Mobile, 136 pts) is in the quieter part of his season. In the teams rankings, Phonak holds a six point lead over Team CSC, with Rabobank in third place. Italy is the number one ranked nation on 574 points, ahead of the USA (468 pts) and Spain (355 pts).

The top ten teams in the US-based Women's Prestige Cycling Series following the International Tour de 'Toona are headed for the CD&P Bermuda Grand Prix (September 22-25). Each team will receive a generous travel grant and assistance with housing. On top, Webcor Builders is continuing to demonstrate impressive depth, leading second place Quark Cycling by 461 points. They also have two riders in the top five overall and the top two riders in the Best Young Rider competition. In the individual Standings, Christine Thorburn's (Webcor Builders) second place finish at the Tour de Toona, a mere 1 second behind Geneviève Jeanson, may have put the overall series win out of the reach of her competition. Thorburn's wins at the PoolGel Redlands Classic and the Nature Valley Grand Prix, combined with second place points in Altoona, give her a 211 point lead over Quark's Annette Beutler. With 220 points on the line for the win in Bermuda, Beutler could still take the overall series, but only if Thorburn failed to finish in the top 40 at the Series' finale. However, the competition for the other podium spots remains hot, with just over 100 points separating the next four riders. Erinne Willock (Webcor Builders) claimed an unassailable lead in the series' Best Young Rider competition when she took fifth place overall at the Tour de Toona. Along with her current fourth place in the overall Series standings, the youngster is clearly a rider to watch for the future. This will be Willock's second year as the top young rider in the Series. However, like the individual competition, the other podium positions remain up for grabs. Sprinters are also recognized by the Women's Prestige Cycling Series. Ina Teutenberg (T-Mobile) retained her lead by winning the Tour de' Toona's sprint competition. Quark is also showing well in the sprint competition, with three riders in the top five, including the dynamic duo of Tina Pic and Laura Van Gilder in second and third. Gina Grain (Victory Brewing), last year's winner of the Series sprint competition, is currently in fourth. In contrast to recent years, the juniors will have the stage all to themselves, as before this, they formed part of the championships where all disciplines were catered for along with the professionals. Ireland will have five juniors in action: Martin Munroe (Connacht), Ciaran Cassidy, Ciaran Kelly, Sean Rock (all Leinster) and Maurice O'Brien (Munster). Munroe goes in the time trial on Friday, and the quartet will be in action in the road race on Sunday. Performance Manager Martin O'Loughlin is hoping for a good showing. "The team has a balanced look to it," he said. "Martin Munroe has won international time trials in the Junior Tour de Paco in France and the Martin Donnelly Junior Tour. His experience from Verona last year will stand to him, as will his preparation for the track individual pursuit. "Ciaran Kelly has come on leaps and bounds this season and is an exciting talent. Maurice O'Brien has done everything asked of him. His early results in Belgium were encouraging and he has shown that he is on form in the Martin Donnelly Junior Tour and the World Track Championships. Ciaran Cassidy´s early season was blighted by illness, but he has hit form at just the right time. Sean Rock's results and general attitude in the Sean Kelly Cycling Academy have impressed all of those who work with him. His selfless riding for his team mates won him many admirers in the M. Donnelly Junior Tour." Mark Scanlon's win the Junior Worlds in 1998 has been a real tonic down the years for Irish teams competing abroad. Also there is a belief at home and abroad that this team can deliver and the fact that Ciaran Kelly raked up a number of wins on the continent early in the year. He is obviously the trump card. Gough gets UCI scholarship17 year-old Westley Gough, who together with fellow New Zealanders Sam Bewley, Jesse Sergent and Darren Shea won the Gold medal at the Junior World Track Championships in the Team Pursuit, has been granted a three-month scholarship from the UCI at the World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland. Gough is predicted a bright future in cycling, also by his coach, former professional cyclist Brendon Vesty. "He's still so young and he's actually got another year to go in the juniors," Vesty told Hawke's Bay Today. "Even though he's had this success on the track, ultimately, I think his future will be on the road and I believe he'll become a really good professional. I'm talking about Tour de France level here, because I truly believe he has that much talent." "This is the longest running, most successful cross gig in town", said team director, sponsor, and racer, the Connecticut-based frame builder Richard Sachs. With past team members including Jonathan Page and Tyler Johnson, the Richard Sachs team continues to build on the success of its history. Returning to the team is 1999 USA Espoirs Cyclocross National Championship silver medalist and former World Championship team member, Justin Spinelli. The youngest American ever to race the Giro d'Italia, with Farm Frites in 2000, Justin has since raced with Team Saeco, Navigators, and most recently TARGETRAINING. The distance and format chosen is the same as the Olympics and World Championships from 1960 to 1992: Four riders per team, racing over 100 kilometres. The trial timing is set on the third rider for each team. This particular course is about 33.6 km per lap, meaning the teams will ride three laps. All teams are welcome to participate.
