After proving his great form at Paris-Roubaix, where he finished second, Discovery Channel's George Hincapie received high approval from his team management. "It was one of George's best days - he didn't do one thing wrong on the bike," directeur sportif Dirk Demol said on thepaceline.com.

"Usually afterwards, you say 'well, we could have done this or should have done that.' But today, he rode the perfect race. The only issue was Boonen. After the race, (George) felt the same as me - happy with being second and reaching the podium in one of the biggest races in the world, but on the other side, feeling again - so close at Roubaix. He also realized he didn't do anything wrong today and that he knew he gave it all he could," Demol added. With Lance Armstrong taking the start at the Tour de Georgia as of Tuesday, April 19, Hincapie will be participating in the upcoming Dutch classic Amstel Gold race next Sunday.

"George is the leader of the team and he's in great shape," said Johan Bruyneel. "He's never done very well in the few times he has taken part in the race because it used to be the last race of the spring. Now, I think he's fresher at this stage as he was out for a longer time with his illness. I think he can do a good race. He's in good shape, both mentally and physically."

Taking the start for the Discovery Channel team will be: Volodymyr Bileka, Ryder Hesjedal, George Hincapie, Benoit Joachim, Benjamin Noval, Pavel Padrnos, Jurgen Van den Broeck and Max van Heeswijk.

Davitamon, Gerolsteiner and Bouygues in Maastricht

Belgian team Davitamon-Lotto has announced its selection of riders for the Dutch classic Amstel Gold Race. Lining up at the start in Maastricht will be: Serge Baguet, Christophe Brandt, Bjorn Leukemans, Axel Merckx, Preben Van Hecke, Johan Vansummeren, Leon Van Bon and Aart Vierhouten.

German team Gerolsteiner will bring young talent Heinrich Haussler to Amstel. The 21 year-old finished 25th at his first Paris-Roubaix last Sunday, and seems to have great talent. Joining him in Maastricht will be his teammates Andrea Moletta, Ronny Scholz, Fabian Wegmann, Peter Wrolich, Markus Zberg, Thomas Ziegler and - of course - team leader Davide Rebellin.

French team Bouygues will enter the following team members in the Dutch classic: Walter Bénéteau, Laurent Brochard, Anthony Geslin, Laurent Lefèvre, Jérôme Pineau, Didier Rous, French champion Thomas Voeckler and Unai Yus.

Cycling Ireland CEO retires

Cycling Ireland has announced that Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Hallam, has retired from full-time work after his contract with the federation expired on March 31, 2005. Englishman Hallam joined Cycling Ireland as CEO in March 2003 on a fixed-term contract.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the last two years and I hope that I have contributed to a growing and vibrant organisation," Hallam said. "I had planned to settle with my family in Ireland but a combination of education issues, elderly parents in England and the business interests of my wife have made those personal plans unworkable," he added.

Cycling Ireland President, Míceal Concannon commented, "Stuart’s time with us has coincided with a period of steady growth in the membership of Cycling Ireland. His greatest legacy may be the unravelling of the insurance questions that engaged many members over the last few years. This was difficult and tedious work but his efforts have generated a degree of clarity which will allow members and clubs to operate successfully."

Cycling Ireland is to announce his replacement shortly.

Amstel Fantasy Game start list uploaded

The latest start list for the Amstel Gold race on Sunday has been uploaded to the game site. Here's what the current leader of the game had to say about his team selection in the Gent-Wevelgem: "The key to success in this race was to shy away from the favourites. It seems all the big guns had Roubaix on their minds so you knew it was a day for the opportunists. In Flanders the top three favourites took 1-2-3. That is why over 100 teams finished within sight of the top Fantasy team. In this race [Gent-Wevelgem] however, Mattan and Flecha were 25-1 mid-range longshots, having both of them was the key along with Hushovd, Cooke and De Jongh."
