Minaar and Hannah choke out Deer Valley DH wins

South African Greg Minnaar (Team G-Cross/Honda) took his second NORBA win in a row Sunday at round four of the US National Series at the Deer Valley ski resort in Park City, Utah. Seventeen year old Aussie Tracey Hannah (Edge Cycles) grabbed her second-ever international win as well (the first came at Sugar Mountain in June).
Riders had to deal with thick layers of dust in the harder-hit corners on the Deer Valley downhill course, fighting to find lines through thick clouds of dust. "It was a real challenge to keep the bike from slipping off course," Minaar said. "The dust is incredible here."
Minaar says the conditions, coupled with the draining altitude, made him take a cautious approach to the race. He says he took his lines carefully and focused on flow rather than pushing the edge of speed. The tactic paid off; Minaar finished a full second ahead of Aussie Sam Hill (Monster Energy/Iron Horse).
"Feels good to win here today," he said. "Even though I went harder in the final, I still backed off in some places, as I wanted to be smoother rather than faster. When I got to the bottom, though, I worked a bit harder and sprinted to the line. I'm really happy to get the win after last weekend's bad luck (in Balneario Camborio, Brazil where Minaar punctured on course while on track for a top result and fell to 23rd)."
Hannah is somehwhat of a phenom on the NORBA scene. Younger sister of downhiller Mick Hannah, the Ciarns teenager managed a seven-second advantage over veteran April Lawyer (Team Maxxis) for her victory.
