Stage 5 - January 30: Trial Harbour, 22km
Taberley & Jongewaard ride away

Cool dry conditions greeted riders for day 3 of Wildside.
The day's first stage from Granville Harbour to Trial Harbour along the rugged but beautiful South Western Tasmanian coast give riders an opportunity to unleash the descending demon within or simply enjoy the views. After a chaotic downhill mass start the field broke up with the usual suspects at the front - tour leader Chris Jongewaard, teammate Sid Taberlay, Alistair Farley and the Cannondale/Maxxis train hanging off the back.
With the constantly undulating sandstone and shale track, tech skills would be an asset for both climbing and descending and the guys with the most skills would appear to be Avanti's Jongewaard and Taberlay as they simply rode away from the pack.
The finish of the stage, which is being run in reverse this year, is an eyeballs-out decent down the access road to Trial Harbour. While conditions were perfect with tacky dirt, the corners have a habit of tightening up and the plethora of skids leading to the edge of the track by the time I came though attests that a number of riders overcooked it.
At the front Jongewaard and Taberlay simply rode tempo all day and crossed the line together with the victory given to Jongewaard by a knob… tyre knob that is.
Niki Fisher simply did what she has done all race and just put more time into Katrin Van der Spiegel and Lisa Mathison.
