Jongewaard doubles up; Mathison in total control

With a chopper on hand to give us a bird's-eye view of the start, we were given a box seat to some great racing early on. The lads must have been inspired by the chopper because the attacks started from the gun with the morning's stage winner, Jongewaard (Avanti), going up the road immediately.
Perren Delacour (Yeti) was quick to follow as were Cannondale riders Aidan Leffman and James Maebus. As none of these riders were a threat to the top of GC, a few others tried to skip away, namely Nick Kiraly (SRAM-Rock Shox-Mongoose) and Brian Sing (Yeti), but they never bridged and were reeled in by the top.
The next major obstacle was the swinging bridge across Montezuma falls, where Rob Eva infamously managed to ride 3/4 of the way across before losing his front wheel down the gap. This year it would prove difficult for another reason as from the front of the break, Perren Delacour caught his pedal in the netting and the race all came back together as he grappled to get it loose with riders piling up behind him.
Being the gentlemen they are, the guys agreed to let the break go with the same time-gap they had coming into the bridge. Jongewaard took advantage of this and put the pressure on whilst his three breakaway companions blew up and went right back through the chasing bunch. Jongewaard just managed to hang on to win his second stage of the day by less than half a minute over his Avanti teammate and race leader, Taberlay who flew the coup about 6km from home to take a few more seconds out of his main rivals.
Chris was really happy with his win again, saying that he took some big risks again on the course, hitting blind corners with two wheel drifts and wheelie-ing through big puddles with no idea of how deep they were. Not too far behind the Avanti pair was the group of Hatton (Trek) and two of the Yeti boys (Rowney and Lowe) who had flown past all of the early break apart from Jongewaard and shed the rest of the main bunch in the process.
Not too far back was Lisa Mathison who had a pretty fast stage and also picked up 'cleanest rider' award on a day where most people were coated in a thin film of silty-mud. Her tactic was that she hit each river crossing flat out and despite it being a little chilly, she managed to get most of the dirt off both herself and the bike.
