Eurobike 2011: BMC enters 29er market with two models for 2012

After a busy couple of seasons in road bike development with its new Impec and TimeMachine models, Swiss company BMC is devoting a bit more attention to the off-road side of its business with two new 29er ranges for 2012 to go along with the carbon fiber Trailfox model launched earlier this year.

First previewed at this year's Sea Otter Classic, the new TeamElite TE29 hardtail features an all-aluminum triple butted tubeset hydroformed into BMC's trademark shapes – such as the T-profile top tube and unique seat cluster arrangement – plus a short, tapered head tube for accurate steering, post mount rear disc tabs, and a direct-mount front derailleur.

BMC is emphasizing the geometry aspects of the new frame, which include a relatively steep 70° head tube angle and short 403mm chain stays, all optimized around a 100mm-travel fork.

Accompanying the new big-wheeler is the SpeedFox SF29 full-suspension bike, which uses BMC's proven APS short dual-link rear suspension design with 100mm of travel, triple butted hydroformed aluminum tubing, post mount rear disc tabs, a direct-mount front derailleur, a tapered head tube, and similar geometry as on the TE29.

Both frames will be offered in a choice of two build kits: Shimano SLX with a RockShox Recon Gold fork, Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes, and Alex wheels; or SRAM X0 with a Fox 32 Float FIT RLC 15QR fork, Avid Elixir 7 brakes, and Easton EA70 wheels.
