Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain rider wins twice at Mount Snow
Coming off the biggest win of his career the prior weekend at the Bromont round of the UCI World Cup, Canadian Geoff Kabush (Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain) was the odds-on favorite to take the win the Mount Snow, Vermont, ProXCT event. He did just that and in doing so, set the record for all-time US National Series cross country race wins. Kabush can boast 15 wins, surpassing the total of his boyhood idol John Tomac.
Kabush couldn't take anything for granted with cross country competition like Sam Schultz and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (both Gary Fisher / Subaru) and Todd Wells (Specialized Factory Racing). From the gun, a likely bunch formed at the front of the race, with Kabush stringing out the field with a huge effort that only Horgan-Kobelski, Wells, Schultz, and Sid Taberlay (Sho-Air) could match.
On lap two, Schultz put in a big effort to come through the start / finish first, with the otehrs closely behind. The Gary Fisher riders dropped on lap three while Kabush and Wells set the pace and Taberlay sat in. Kabush launched an attack on the final lap that netted him a 1:11 gap at the finish ahead of Taberlay, with Wells in third at 2:01.
Kabush's ProXCT campaign so far this year has had mixed results. He started the season with a win in in Fontana, but he finished off the top spot in the next two events in Alabama and Colorado. Fellow Canadian Max Plaxton (Sho-Air) took the win at the Colorado event and held the series lead going into Vermont.
Kabush made it the perfect Mount Snow weekend with a second win on Sunday. He took the short track ahead of Wells and Adam Craig (Giant). The Candian also holds the record for all-time short track wins.

Proceeds will benefit South African children
Bike Pure is auctioning the autographed rainbow jersey of current World Champion Christoph Sauser (Specialized Factory Racing) to benefit the Songo.info charity which Sauser backs.
The World Championship jersey, won in June of 2008 in Val di Sole, Italy, spent the past year travelling on display as a symbol of the Bike Pure's efforts to promote clean, doping-free cycling.
Sauser has spent the past seven winters in South Africa and last year decided to back Songo.info to support the children of Kayamandi via sport and education. The charity uses sport to cross the barrier between education and play and to broaden the life skills of the children with the goal of keeping them off the path of drugs and crime.
The autographed jersey is framed (37 x 28 inches / 93 x 71 cm) and includes a caption that reads "Christoph Sauser (Team Specialized), 2008 World Mountain Bike Champion to Bike Pure"
All proceeds from the auction, which ends August 17, will go to Songo.info.

Giant Italia star out for six weeks
Team Giant Italia's Ivan Alvarez Guiterrez crashed at the HC-category International Mountain Bike Race in Bern, Switzerland, on Sunday and broke his arm. Alvarez will be out of competition for six weeks, which means he will miss the World Championships in Australia and the final World Cup in Austria.
Alvarez fractured his radius in the crash and immediately underwent surgery in Switzerland.
"Starting next week, we will focus on the last part of the season and define a new calendar for our team leader," said Team Manager Gianfranco Bechis of Alvarez's recovery. "In the month of October, Team Giant Italia will attend the Roc d'Azur, the Gimondi Bike and the La Prevostura marathon.
