More sunshine and warm temperatures greeted racers as the series moved south to San Diego for SoCalCross Series Race #3 on Sunday, October 9th. Hosted by Adams Avenue Bicycles, the course wound its way around Morley Field Park … a power riders delight, and ended ala Paris Roubaix style with a final lap around the velodrome, treating spectators to some spectacular sprint finishes. Adams Avenue's unique flare included custom beer trophies and… a beer garden in the infield of the track… giving racers a chance to relax, socialize and swap stories after a hard day of racing!

In the Firestone/Walker Brewery A Men's race, 45+ National Champion Mark Noble (Amgen) paid a visit after winning the Pilarcitos 35 + Men's A race last weekend in Nor Cal. He sprinted out the race with his team mate and Santa Cross promoter extraordinaire, Gary Hansen who took the win from Noble in a photo finish. Eric Burgan finished 3rd to complete the podium.

In the Slime Smart Tubes A Women's event, series leader Dorothy Wong of Kelly Bike Co. took the win, while Mandy Eakins of AFP/Velosport took second and Carol Ruckle of Jelly Belly third in just their second year of racing cross!

In the rest of the day's events… Ian Moir of Major Motion won the ever growing Junior Men 18+ under field, while Brittney Van Vleet (KHS/Swamis) took her second win of the series in the Jr. Women.

2004 Series champions, JL Livesay (PAA/Merrill Lynch) and Chris Gallup (Celo Pacific) won in commanding style in the Masters 50+ and 40+ respectively. Two times a charm for Ty Cady of Road N Road Cyclery winning the Kool N Fit Sport B Men's event, while Lisa Vorell of Encore Cycling took the Protech Women's B event, edging out B & L Bikes very own Sara Gordon.

The day of racing ended with the largest field of the day once again, the Men C with Michael Bennett of Gold Coast Velo winning with his usual flare. And, after flatting out of the Men's A event, Tony Smith of Celo Pacific took it out on the Dragon Sport/XS Energy Singlespeed field, winning this time on freshly inflated tires!

Specialized Bicycles hosted Bike Demo Day showing off their collection of Tricross bikes, introducing and allowing riders to test and race them throughout the day.

The SCCX series continues next weekend with race #4: Celo Pacific CX in Vista , CA at Buena Vista Park . Buena Vista Park was the 2002 California State Championship course. It is a fast course on dirt trails, paved road, and may include some grass. Course configuration will be different from 2004.
