Chris from the USA asks:I will be undergoing an operation to repair a injury i suffered this summer during a crit. apparently i broke the phisorm bone in my hand near the wrist when i went down (on the last corner no less). The doctor will place a pin between the bones to fasten them together. The doctor says I will be in a cast or hard splint for 5-6 weeks. I'm not sure when I will be able to resume riding or roller riding. in the meantime i'm planning on hiking to stay fit. any other suggestions. CoachWhy not ride? I am just getting over a broken wrist myself. I missed very few days training and modelled the splint to fit my bars. I also wrapped a stack of the bubble plastic packing around my bars. It wasn't perfect that is for sure but I have recovered okay and raced after 2 weeks like it although I was pretty awful one day in the hills because I could not get off my saddle for some weeks. At least it taught me good pedalling form.If it is just a hard (plastic) splint then I would swim - with a kickboard kicking hard. that is actually pretty good for the quads and hip extensor muscles - direct benefits for you cycling. |
