Indoor Trainers

Rory 43 from Ireland asks:

By the way getting getting lactates done is not on for me. I used to use a turbo-trainer in the winter but got fed up when I burst several tyres. I would be very grateful for advice on buying a good quality trainer.

The Coach responds:

I use a computrainer or racermate. It is an american product and I have pounded it for about 6 years now with little problems. It allows you to connect your own racing bike (and hence racing position) to the cradle. I use heavy tyres on my bike to stop the wear and they seem to last okay.

It also connects via a serial port to a PCc and is driven by software which allows one to program courses, terrain, wind, distance, and also allows you to chase your last race, or program a racermate to race against. It also simulates drafting. It is very motivational and the screen shows all the data (you and the mate), the outline of the course and where you and the mate are, and also the vision from the bike (Simulated scenery). it was not all that expensive over here (about $800 australian). It is brilliant. I use it as an ergo bike, a motor pacing device and everything else.

I know you can get them in the UK but in Ireland I am not sure. check out some American bike magazine.
