Base Fitness - Where to Start?

Rory 43 from Ireland asks:

100km at SEHR (88% - 153) is impossible for me.

The Coach Responds

This takes a lot of conditioning and experience. with the above comments about distance given, one has to learn to do high efforts for long periods. you start off by splitting the task into achievable segments. so warm up and then do the 80 kms (10 up and 10 down in warm up warm down) in 10 kms at 88%, 10 kms at 75 %, 10 kms 88%, 10 75%, etc etc.

When you can do that, up the interval to 15-5 (88-75), then do 15-5, and throw in a 20 km interval at 88,

Slowly over time you can do that if you approach it as a series of goals. it maybe of-course that you could never do it. but you can give yourself the best shot by approaching it in segments.
